The record books from 2011 show Mason
Mingus as one to put in the darkhorse
category. The CRA rookie has had a good
break out year in his first full run in the
Super Late Model machines. He is fourth
in points after seven top 10 runs.
As the season heads into its closing big
races, one can only expect to see big
things from the young teenage-driver
from Brentwood, Tennessee. After
all, he placed in the top-10 in the All
American 400, Winchester 400 and the
Snowball Derby, being the only driver to
do so.
"I like the longer races," said Mingus. "You have 300 or 400 laps to play with and if you take care of the car you can run hard at the end and get a good finish. It's fun to be a part of these big shows and run the longer races."
Mingus will kick off the big shows with his second trip to the Winchester 400. He was fourth in 2010, one spot in behind his current crew chief, Chuck Barnes, Jr. Together, the two could be a real force on the high banks come Sunday. Barnes has been close as a driver and would love nothing more than to win with Mingus a s a driver.
"We could have had a better run at Winchester last year," explained Mingus after his top-five run. "We lost a few laps, but didn't really get them all back. We had a good car and we are looking forward to going back again."
The Winchester 400 weekend gets underway with practice on Friday, October 14th. It will be followed by practice and qualifying on Saturday, October 15th. Raceday will be on Sunday, October 16th for the 40th Annual Winchester 400 in Winchester, Indiana.
